Laparoscopic Pelvic Floor Surgery Course: Colposacropexy and Pectopexy

An intensive training course focused on learning, updating and refining the main techniques of pelvic reconstructive surgery using a laparoscopic approach. The programme combines theoretical sessions on the current state of prolapse surgery, applied anatomy and a step-by-step review of techniques, with an extensive practical component using simulators, a robotic platform and experimental models. Participants develop skills in intracorporeal suturing, dissection and the complete execution of colposacropexy and pectopexy techniques, incorporating surgical tips and strategies for the prevention of complications. This is a highly specialised advanced course for gynaecologists and urologists, designed to strengthen technical proficiency and decision-making in minimally invasive pelvic reconstructive surgery.

Description

Advances in our understanding of the anatomy and physiology of pelvic prolapse have led to the development of various surgical reconstruction techniques designed to provide a comprehensive solution to this condition. Among these, colposacropexy and pectopexy represent effective surgical options within the minimally invasive approach, the choice of which depends on the clinical and anatomical characteristics of each patient, as well as the surgeon’s experience.
The laparoscopic approach to these techniques offers advantages such as better visualisation of deep anatomical structures, greater precision during dissection and a faster post-operative recovery.
This course is a highly specialised training programme designed to refine skills in minimally invasive surgery for pelvic prolapse, incorporating both colposacropexy and pectopexy as complementary techniques within the therapeutic arsenal.
Led by Dr Álvaro Serrano (Vithas Arturo Soria Hospital, Madrid), Dr Antonio Servera Ruiz de Velasco (Manacor Hospital, Mallorca) and Dr Francisco Miguel Sánchez Margallo (CCMIJU), the programme combines a solid theoretical foundation with intensive practical training.

The course consists of a theoretical component, delivered by medical specialists in the field, and a practical component that will be carried out in several stages. Firstly, students will work with an ex vivo simulator and, subsequently, with experimental models, always under the supervision of the teaching staff.
