University Master’s Degree in Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery in Small Animals
Official Master’s Degree – University of Extremadura
This semi-presential Master’s programme is designed to enable students to acquire and apply the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to professionally practice Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) in small animals, while also laying the foundations for the continued professional development of small animal veterinarians. The programme provides students with sufficient knowledge to engage in research from an individual perspective, as well as to participate in preclinical research environments or academic settings.
Upon completion of the Master’s programme, students will have gained an understanding of the different approaches to MIS in small animals. They will also have considered aspects of clinical management, the development of the scientific method, applied research, and the specific requirements of Animal Welfare as an essential pillar of the veterinary profession.
Presentation
With a clinical and practical focus, this Master’s programme develops, through its courses, knowledge of Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) applied to small animal practice. In addition, the programme equips students with the knowledge necessary to engage in research, both from an individual perspective and as a key contributor within a preclinical research environment, as a potential service to a company, or within a university setting.
The primary objective of this programme is for students to acquire and competently apply all the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for professional practice in Endoscopy and MIS, while also laying the foundations for the continued professional development of small animal veterinarians.
Specific objectives:
- Understand the basic principles of the surgical environment in Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery (CEyCMI): ergonomics, instruments, and equipment; surgical technique and protocols.
- Learn endoscopic and laparoscopic anatomy, main indications for CEyCMI, the most frequent pathologies, their management, and associated anesthetic procedures.
- Master supportive medical treatment for pathologies amenable to endoscopic and minimally invasive surgery. Acquire, handle, and report all types of endoscopic samples.
- Develop action protocols based on interactive discussion of clinical cases. Manage protocols and technologies aimed at optimizing various MIS resources.

Each student has been trained individually to engage in research, both from a personal perspective and as a key contributor within a preclinical research environment, as a potential service to a company, or within a university setting.
Specific Objectives Achieved:
- Understand the basic principles of the surgical environment in CEyCMI: ergonomics, instruments, and equipment; surgical techniques and protocols.
- Understand endoscopic and laparoscopic anatomy, the main indications for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS), the most frequent pathologies, their management, and the associated anesthetic procedures.
- Master supportive medical treatment for pathologies amenable to endoscopic and minimally invasive surgery. Also, understands the techniques for obtaining and handling all types of endoscopic samples, including the preparation of corresponding reports.
- Understand how to develop action protocols based on interactive discussion of clinical cases. Can manage protocols and technologies aimed at optimizing the various resources of Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS).

- If you completed your pre-registration during the extraordinary phase from September 2 to 6, 2024, you can check your admission on the list that will be published on September 10 on our website. The period for submitting appeals is September 10 and 11 by sending an email to secretariapostgrado@ccmijesususon.com.
- During the Regular Phase, provided there are vacant places and applicants on the waiting list, up to TWO calls will be made. Each call will be published on our website at 10:00 a.m. on August 26 and 28. The call will include, for each master’s program, the list of students who, based on the waiting list, have secured a place and will have until 2:00 p.m. on the date indicated in the pre-registration and enrollment calendar to complete their enrollment by sending an email to secretariapostgrado@ccmijesususon.com. If the enrollment is not completed within this period, the right to the place will be forfeited.
- In the Extraordinary Phase, provided there are vacant places and applicants on the waiting list, due to the start date of the Master’s program, no calls will be made for the allocation of vacancies. These will be managed by the Center’s Secretariat, which will assign any available places, or those that may arise due to cancellations, to students on the waiting list, strictly following the order established on the list.
