Description

The 8th Pediatric Laparoscopic Urologic Surgery and Endourology Course, organized by the Jesús Usón Minimally Invasive Surgery Center (CCMIJU), is designed as highly specialized training for pediatric urologists, general urologists, and surgeons interested in advancing their skills in minimally invasive pediatric urology. The course provides a comprehensive approach to the surgical management of pediatric urologic conditions, balancing advanced theoretical training with intensive hands-on practice aimed at progressive acquisition of technical competencies in a highly specialized learning environment.

The course is directed by Dr. Francisco Miguel Sánchez Margallo (CCMIJU), together with Drs. Andrés Gómez Fraile, Daniel Cabezalí Barbancho, Indalecio Cano Novillo, and Dr. Cristina Tordable Ojeda, all specialists from Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, Madrid, ensuring a high scientific and clinical standard and expert guidance based on real clinical pediatric urology practice. Their participation provides close and personalized mentorship throughout the course.

Throughout the sessions, participants gain in-depth knowledge of pediatric endourology fundamentals, including the handling of endoscopic and fluoroscopic instruments, endoscopic urologic anatomy, and minimally invasive approaches to the urinary tract in pediatric patients, with special emphasis on indications, techniques, and potential complications. The practical program covers procedures such as ureteroscopy, endourologic management of the upper urinary tract, endoscopic treatment of vesicoureteral reflux via submucosal injection, ureteral stricture dilation, laser endopyelotomy, and percutaneous urinary tract access—all performed on animal models under endoscopic and fluoroscopic guidance.

The course also addresses pediatric laparoscopic urology, with simulator and animal-model practice focused on nephrectomy, detrusorrhaphy using the Lich-Gregoir technique, and pyeloplasty, including dedicated sessions on hemostasis control and complication management. Robotic surgery demonstrations complement the training, enabling participants to explore the integration of robotic platforms in pediatric urologic surgery.

This course represents a high-value professional development opportunity for updating and refining minimally invasive pediatric urology skills, facilitating direct transfer to clinical practice and interaction with national expert specialists, all within the academically and technologically excellent environment of CCMIJU.
