Description
The Veterinary Endourology Course offers comprehensive and specialized training in the main endoscopic techniques applied to the minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment of urinary tract diseases in animals. Directed by Dr. Francisco Miguel Sánchez Margallo (Scientific Director of the Jesús Usón Minimally Invasive Surgery Center) and Dr. Federico Soria Gálvez (Head of Experimental Surgery Services at Ramón y Cajal University Hospital, Madrid), this program combines high-level theoretical sessions with an extensive practical module on simulators and animal models.
During the theoretical sessions, participants will thoroughly review endoscopic equipment and instruments, as well as exploration and treatment techniques for the lower urinary tract (urethra and bladder) and upper urinary tract (ureter and kidney). The practical sessions, taught by Dr. Federico Soria Gálvez and Mr. Manuel Ramón González Portillo (Research Technician of the Laparoscopy Unit at CCMIJU), will allow participants to apply the knowledge acquired through progressive exercises in highly simulated environments.
The practical program covers everything from diagnostic and therapeutic urethrocystoscopy—including biopsies, ureteral catheterization, and endoscopic treatment of urinary incontinence—to the placement of double-J ureteral catheters, implantation of urethral metal stents, Ho:YAG laser lithotripsy in ex vivo and animal models, and ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrostomy for access to the upper urinary tract.
Thanks to its highly practical approach and the use of advanced surgical technology, this course provides a unique opportunity for veterinarians and urological surgery specialists interested in mastering the most current endourological techniques, optimizing precision and safety in their clinical interventions.
