Training Course on Fetoscopy and Updates on Fetal Surgery

This intensive course focuses on advanced prenatal diagnosis and fetal surgery techniques. It includes theoretical sessions on congenital malformations, cardiac surgery, and procedures such as fetoscopy, fetal reduction, and correction of defects like myelomeningocele and diaphragmatic hernia. Practical training on experimental models covers uterine exploration, Nd-YAG laser use, amniotic band release, and endoscopic fetal tracheal occlusion.

Description

This intensive course, directed by Dr. Francisco Miguel Sánchez Margallo (Scientific Director, CCMIJU) and Dr. José Luis Peiró (NYU Langone Health, Director of Advanced Fetal Care), provides a comprehensive update on fetoscopy and advanced fetal surgery techniques. It is designed for professionals specializing in obstetrics, gynecology, and pediatric surgery who are interested in innovations in prenatal diagnosis and intrauterine treatment of congenital malformations.

The program combines highly complex theoretical and practical sessions. The theoretical lectures, delivered by international experts such as Alberto Galindo, Fernando Vuletin, José Luis Encinas, Silvia Arévalo, and Fernando Ferrer Márquez, cover topics including prenatal diagnosis, management of complications in monochorionic twin pregnancies, fetal reduction in multichorionic pregnancies, congenital malformations (sacrococcygeal teratoma, pulmonary malformations, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and amniotic band syndrome), fetal cardiac surgery, myelomeningocele, and tocolysis strategies in fetal surgery.

The practical sessions, conducted on experimental models, allow participants to apply advanced fetoscopic techniques, including uterine cavity exploration, Nd-YAG laser photocoagulation of placental vessels, amniotic band release, and endoscopic fetal tracheal occlusion for the treatment of severe congenital diaphragmatic hernia.

This course provides a comprehensive experience that combines cutting-edge theoretical knowledge with hands-on training in complex intrauterine procedures, ensuring the acquisition of advanced competencies in minimally invasive fetal surgery.
